Dear Friends and Supporters,
For nearly five decades, Civic Dance Center’s production of The Nutcracker has been a cherished Bakersfield holiday tradition — bringing together local dancers, musicians, families, and audiences in a celebration of artistry, collaboration, and community spirit. At the heart of this experience is something truly special: a live orchestra.
Very few Nutcracker productions across the country continue to feature live music, and we are proud to uphold this tradition here in Bakersfield. A live orchestra transforms the performance into something extraordinary. Our dancers do not simply perform to recorded tracks; they respond in real time to the conductor’s cue, the emotion of the strings, and the energy of the musicians surrounding them. This artistic partnership creates a dynamic and unforgettable experience for performers and audiences alike.
Beyond the beauty of the performance itself, the live orchestra provides invaluable training for our pre-professional dancers and musicians. It offers young artists the rare opportunity to collaborate in a fully realized production environment while inspiring the next generation of performers, patrons, and arts advocates within our community.
The impact of the arts extends far beyond the stage. Experiences like The Nutcracker foster connection, creativity, and emotional well-being, offering moments of joy, reflection, and wonder that bring people together across generations. In a fast-paced world, the arts provide something increasingly meaningful: shared human connection.
As we prepare for our 2026 production, we invite you to become part of this enduring tradition by supporting the Nutcracker Orchestra. Your tax-deductible contribution directly supports the talented local musicians who make this production possible and helps ensure that Bakersfield families can continue experiencing the magic of live performance for years to come.
Thank you for believing in the power of the arts and in the importance of keeping this treasured community tradition alive.
With gratitude,
Erica Ueberroth
