Alicia Angelini

Artistic Director for Jazz

Alicia Angelini started dancing at age 3, and received much of her early dance training at Civic Dance Center in Bakersfield. From there, she attended the University of California Irvine where she had the opportunity to perform original works by various esteemed choreographers including ETC! by David Allan and a re-staging of William Forsythe’s Steptext by Douglas Becker. UCI is also where she found a true passion for choreography and chose to make that her focus while continuing her dance training.

Her choreography was featured in several UCI shows, including Bare Bone Dance Theater and Physical Graffiti. While still attending school, Alicia was cast to be a member of Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular, and performed the premier season with the show before going back to school full time to finish her degree. She graduated from UCI with a B.A. in Dance, and a minor in Education. Alicia continues to teach and choreograph at Civic Dance Center, and her choreography has been showcased in various venues throughout the state. In 2009, at the Regional Dance America Pacific Festival, Alicia was presented with the Monticello Award for outstanding emerging choreographer for her work, Remembrances. She attended the Craft of Choreography Conference in 2009 on full scholarship, and at the conclusion of the conference, she was honored to be chosen for the Choreography Connection Grant Program, allowing her the opportunity to work with another company from the RDA membership and set a future piece with them. She staged this new original work entitled From Point A… on the Southeast Alabama Dance Company in Dothan, Alabama.

Alicia is grateful for all the support and love from her husband, Chris, and her children, Lucas and Sophia, who provide immeasurable inspiration. One of her greatest joys is to share the stage with her children, and pass her love of dance on to them. The art of dance has blessed Alicia with so much happiness, and she hopes to be able to share that blessing with audiences and fellow dancers for years to come.
