Lobby & Studio Etiquette
Be mindful of classes in session and keep noise to a minimum throughout the lobby. Conversations should remain respectful, family friendly, and appropriate for dancers of all ages. Students and parents/guardians are expected to be supportive and respectful toward one another, as well as toward faculty and staff.
Personal belongings should be stored neatly in dance bags and lobby cubbies. Cell phones and personal devices should be silenced and stored during class. If listening to music or watching content on a personal device, headphones or earbuds are required so as not to disrupt staff or other people in the lobby.
Parents/guardians may wait in the lobby while students are in class but may not enter classrooms unless expressly invited by a teacher. Do not bring toys or large personal items into the lobby that take up floor space or create clutter. Avoid blocking doorways or walkways while observing classes so dancers, staff, and family may move safely between classrooms, offices and restrooms.
Respect the building and studio property by cleaning up after yourself and using only items or supplies you have permission to use. Do not move or stand on chairs in the lobby or classrooms. Do not turn items on or off, or adjust studio equipment, music, lights, thermostats, or other controls without staff permission.
Children under the age of 10 may not be left unattended at the studio. Parents/guardians should remain at the studio until class begins and arrive promptly for pick-up at the end of class.
Dancers are expected to arrive on time and fully prepared for class with proper dance attire, shoes, equipment, and any personal supplies they regularly need for class, rehearsals, or pointe work. These may include items such as toe pads, toe tape, bandaids, blister care, sewing supplies, hair supplies, or basic first aid items. Studio and faculty supplies are limited and intended for occasional emergencies or staff use, not daily dancer preparation. Spill-proof water bottles are recommended for all classes.
Arrive with enough time for dancers to dress and prepare before class begins. Students should use the restroom before class whenever possible unless there is an emergency. Basic hygiene is expected of all dancers.
Jewelry must be removed before class. Wristwatches, necklaces, large rings on ears or fingers, and bracelets on wrists or ankles are a potential hazard should they come off while dancing or catch on clothing, hair, or other dancers. Small, non-dangling earrings are permitted.
At the barre, dancers should leave enough space between themselves and others to safely execute a grand battement in each position without making contact.
Do not hang on the barres.
Jeans are never permitted in dance class, including hip hop classes.
Civic Dance Center is located at 7840 Brimhall Rd. in Bakersfield, CA. Civic Dance Center houses three state of the art studios. All three of our studios’ wood floors are sprung from their concrete infrastructures by a system of rubber wedges on a wooden frame. Our floors are engineered in this fashion as a safeguard against injuries.
